…The October 29 event at FUTA Multipurpose Hall will mark the third edition of an initiative that has already reached over 200 participants.
The National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), Ondo State Chapter, is set to host the Grand Finale of its Self-Defense Skills Training Programme on October 29, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), with a target of reaching 500 female students from federal and state-owned universities and colleges of education across Ondo State.
The programme is part of the association’s ongoing efforts to promote female students’ safety, confidence, and empowerment through practical self-defense education and personal safety awareness.
Under the leadership of Ikuenomore Precious Adenike, Chairperson of NFSAN Ondo State Chapter, the initiative has recorded two successful editions, reaching over 100 participants in the first edition and over 100 participants in the second. Together, the two editions have reached more than 200 participants, laying a foundation for the final phase of the programme.
For NFSAN, the initiative represents more than a series of training sessions. It reflects a commitment to ensuring that conversations about female empowerment translate into practical opportunities for young women to acquire relevant knowledge and skills.
Beyond Awareness: Equipping Female Students for Personal Safety
Female students deserve learning environments and communities where their safety and well-being are taken seriously. While awareness remains important, practical education can also help young women develop greater confidence, recognize potentially unsafe situations, and make informed decisions about their personal safety.
The Self-Defense Skills Training Programme seeks to contribute to this goal by providing participants with opportunities to learn self-defense techniques and develop situational awareness. It also reinforces the importance of confidence, preparedness, and knowing when and how to seek assistance in potentially dangerous situations.
Through the first two editions, NFSAN Ondo State Chapter has taken practical steps towards making self-defense education accessible to female students. The Grand Finale is expected to build on this progress by bringing together more participants for the concluding edition.
With a target of 500 participants, the association aims to extend the reach of the initiative to female students across federal and state-owned universities and colleges of education in Ondo State.
A Call for Strategic Partnerships and Sponsorship
As preparations continue, NFSAN Ondo State Chapter is inviting corporate organizations, foundations, development partners, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to partner with and sponsor the Grand Finale.
The association recognizes that meaningful programmes require collective effort, adequate resources, and collaboration among stakeholders who share a commitment to the safety and development of young women.
Sponsorship support will help strengthen the delivery of the event and support the resources required to reach the targeted participants. Interested partners are encouraged to engage with the association to explore suitable areas of support and collaboration.
Partners will also have an opportunity to contribute to a practical female empowerment initiative and, subject to mutually agreed arrangements, receive recognition through appropriate event publicity and engagement opportunities.
The association believes that investing in the safety and empowerment of female students is an investment in their confidence, participation, and future opportunities.
Building on Two Editions, Looking Towards Greater Impact
The Grand Finale marks the third and final edition of the current Self-Defense Skills Training initiative. With over 200 participants reached through the first two editions, the association is looking towards the final event as an opportunity to consolidate its efforts and reach more female students.
The programme also underscores the importance of student-led organizations in identifying the needs of their communities and developing practical responses through advocacy, education, and strategic partnerships.
As October 29 approaches, NFSAN Ondo State Chapter calls on institutions, stakeholders, potential sponsors, and members of the public to support the initiative and help make the Grand Finale a meaningful experience for the female students it seeks to serve.
Ultimately, the message behind the programme is simple: female empowerment must include the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills that enable young women to navigate their environments more safely.
