The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, and several members of the federation’s executive committee have resigned amid mounting pressure over the management of Nigerian football.
According to a report by Brilla FM, the NFF board had come under intense scrutiny following a series of setbacks, including Nigeria’s historic failure to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time.
TVC News also confirmed from a senior member of the Supporter Club close to Gusau.
The development also comes as security agencies intensify scrutiny of the federation over the utilisation of funds released by the Federal Government for Nigeria’s national football teams.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly joined other security operatives in investigating the NFF over the utilisation of the N17 billion intervention fund approved by President Bola Tinubu in 2024 to clear outstanding wages and bonuses owed to members of the national teams.

The latest probe comes amid growing concerns over the administration of Nigeria’s national teams, with the Super Eagles missing consecutive FIFA World Cups and the Super Falcons suffering their first failure to qualify for the women’s tournament.
The Super Falcons lost 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), ending their title defence and denying them automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Nigeria subsequently entered the qualification playoff route but lost 2-1 to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, ending the country’s unprecedented run of appearances at every FIFA Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.
The setbacks had increased calls for changes within the NFF, with the executive committee headed by Gusau coming under pressure to resign.
According to the report, more than half of the 13-member NFF board had allegedly resigned, with eight members said to have quit their positions.
The mass resignations could also affect the September 27 election into the NFF board, which is scheduled to hold in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
