NERC Appoints New Board for Kaduna Electric

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has inaugurated an interim board to oversee the operations of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company following the dissolution of its previous Board of Directors.

In a post obtained from NERC’s X handle on Friday, the new board was inaugurated on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, pursuant to an intervention order issued by NERC over the distribution company’s repeated failure to meet market obligations and prescribed performance targets.

NERC, through Order No. NERC/2026/08, dissolved the former Board of Directors of KAEDC and constituted a five-member Interim Board of Special Directors.

The interim board is chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Garba and will serve an initial term of one year.

The Commission also appointed Abubakar Umar Hashidu as Interim Administrator of KAEDC for an initial period of six months.

“The new leadership is expected to drive the restructuring of the distribution company, improve its performance and ensure compliance with applicable market obligations,” NERC stated.

Following the inauguration, a joint delegation comprising NERC officials, members of the new board, KAEDC management and staff paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the One Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna.

The delegation was received by the General Officer Commanding and senior officers of the Division.

The team later visited the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, where it was received by the Commandant and other principal officers of the Academy.

The visits formed part of the new management’s stakeholder engagements as KAEDC begins operations under the interim leadership arrangement.
