An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Ondo State, Dr. Femi Akinkuebi, has urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to embark on reconciliation with aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders following the party’s recent primary elections, warning that internal divisions could undermine governance and development.
Akinkuebi made the appeal in an open letter addressed to the governor, in which he called for unity within the ruling party and the acceleration of projects capable of leaving a lasting legacy across the state.
According to him, the conclusion of the APC primaries had naturally produced both winners and losers, but the responsibility of rebuilding confidence within the party now rests with the governor.
He said, “What happens after a primary election is just as important as what happened during it. The responsibility of bringing everyone together now lies with the leadership of the state.”
The APC chieftain maintained that Ondo possessed enormous economic potential, citing its coastline, agricultural resources, forests, mineral deposits and youthful population, but argued that political cohesion was necessary to unlock those opportunities.
He warned that persistent divisions among party stakeholders could weaken grassroots mobilisation, diminish political goodwill and affect the state’s overall development.
Akinkuebi urged the governor to reach out to aspirants who lost during the primaries, describing them and their supporters as valuable assets rather than political opponents.
According to him, a united APC would provide a stronger platform for implementing the administration’s Our Ease Agenda across the state’s 18 local government areas.
He also advised the governor to prioritise projects with long-term economic and social impact, including improved road infrastructure, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, vocational centres, agricultural investments and the development of the state’s coastal communities.
The APC stalwart further encouraged Aiyedatiwa to deepen collaboration with President Bola Tinubu’s administration by aligning state policies with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that such synergy would position Ondo among states driving the implementation of the President’s development programmes while strengthening the state’s influence within the ruling party.
Akinkuebi also stressed the need for a cordial working relationship between the Ondo State Government and the national leadership of the APC, led by its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
He said sustaining party unity and delivering effective governance would further enhance Ondo’s standing within the APC and consolidate public confidence in the administration.
The party chieftain concluded by urging the governor to seize the opportunity to unite political stakeholders and pursue people-centred development, saying history would remember leaders who placed inclusiveness and lasting achievements above political differences.
