Five Things to Know About New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second term ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Here are five key things to know about the New JAMB Registrar:

1. A Professor of Computer Engineering

Professor Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. He is regarded as a distinguished academic and systems expert with vast experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform.

2. He Studied in the United Kingdom

Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He also earned an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK.

In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

3. Began His JAMB Experience During NYSC

According to the Presidency, Aina first worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he gained foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes.

The experience reportedly shaped his long-standing contributions to examination reforms and systems optimisation.

4. He Has Worked With Major Examination Bodies

With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has consulted for several major examination bodies, including NECO, NABTEB, and different State Ministries of Education.

His areas of expertise include ICT systems, examination integrity, digital transition, and operational reform.

5. He Will Become JAMB’s Youngest Registrar

Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering. He is now set to make history as the youngest Registrar of JAMB.

He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

In an interview he granted shortly after he was made a professor, the new JAMB registrar said, “I think hard work, but I think beyond hard work; I think also smart work. You know, it is not just about working hard; you need to work smart.”

President Tinubu has expressed confidence that Aina would leverage his experience and expertise to build on the achievements recorded under the outgoing registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
