Ex-Defence spokesman slumps, dies in Abuja

Former Defence spokesman, Maj.-Gen. Chris Jemitola (rtd), is dead.

He died on Thursday after collapsing at the IBB Golf Club located in Asokoro, Abuja.

According to family sources, despite swift efforts to rush him to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The late General was the Corp Commander Nigerian Army Signals, Nigeria’s Defence Adviser to Brazil and Director of Army Public Relations.

Gen. Jemitola, who hailed from Ososo in Akoko Edo Local government area of Edo State, served as Obasanjo’s ADC from 2003 to 2007 while he was still a colonel.

He later became the Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) in the Nigerian Army before his retirement.

Before his retirement, late Gen. Jemitola held the critical position of Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP) at the Nigerian Army Headquarters Abuja, where his strategic insights shaped military operations.
