APC rules out Automatic Ticket for National Assembly Members

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nentawe Yilwatda has dismissed speculation that the party is considering automatic tickets for National Assembly members ahead of future elections.

He made this clarification during a media chat in Abuja.

“There is no automatic ticket in our constitution. The party cannot promise an automatic ticket,” the APC chairman said.

He stressed that both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act clearly define how candidates must emerge.

“There’s no automatic ticket in our constitution. The constitution of the party does not provide for automatic tickets, and the party cannot wishfully promise automatic ticket to anyone.

“The Electoral Act also does not provide for automatic ticket. It says all primaries must be either by consensus or by direct primaries,” he said.

According to him, all aspirants within the party would be subjected to the same process without exception.

“All members of our party will undergo the same process. We will use the Electoral Act, our party guidelines, and constitution to get people to participate in primaries,” he added.

The APC chairman noted that performance would be a deciding factor for those seeking re-election.
