There appears to be a developing rift within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), as the group has split into rival factions following reported leadership disagreements.
The division surfaced after claims that the forum’s chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma, was removed from his position on Thursday. However, Uzodimma maintains that he remains the legitimate chairman of the PGF.
In contrast, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are now reportedly spearheading a separate faction within the forum. Another group of governors is also said to be aligning with Abiodun and AbdulRazaq, further deepening the split.
The development highlights rising tensions within the ruling party’s governors’ bloc, coming at a time of increasing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reports by Arise TV indicate that the details of the disagreement are still unclear. However, party sources said tensions had been escalating over internal leadership control and strategic positioning ahead of the next election season.
As of now, none of the factions has issued a formal detailed statement explaining the reasons behind the division.
