Akpabio Swears In Four New Senators

Four newly elected senators officially joined the National Assembly on Wednesday after being sworn in by Senate President Godswill Akpabio following their victories in recent by-elections.

The new lawmakers are Dayo Faduyile of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Ondo South; Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South East; Envulu Anza of the APC, representing Nasarawa North; and Ikeje Asogwu of the APC, representing Enugu North.

Their inauguration during plenary completed the process of filling vacancies that emerged in the four senatorial districts, restoring representation to the affected constituencies.

The Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, administered the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office before the lawmakers formally took their seats in the Red Chamber.

Three of the seats became vacant following the deaths of serving senators. Nwogu emerged after the death of Barinada Mpigi in Rivers South East, while Anza succeeded the late Godiya Akwaashiki in Nasarawa North. In Enugu North, Asogwu replaced the late Okechukwu Ezea.

Faduyile’s election in Ondo South followed the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Congratulating the lawmakers, Akpabio welcomed them to the Senate and urged them to focus on advancing national development.

Describing the chamber as “a family of the most elite club in the world”, the Senate President reminded the new members that they now represent the Federal Republic of Nigeria and should place national interest above partisan considerations.
