The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has ushered in a new chapter of student leadership following the successful conclusion of its Students’ Union election, with Comrade Dina Adekunle Samuel emerging as President-elect.
The outcome has been widely welcomed within the university community, raising expectations for an administration committed to purposeful leadership, accountability, inclusiveness and student-centred governance.
The election, which attracted active participation from students across the institution’s various faculties, was conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere. Following weeks of campaigns, consultations and engagements, students entrusted Samuel and the newly elected executive council with the responsibility of leading the Students’ Union into what many believe will be a new era of progress and impactful leadership.
In an appreciation message, the President-elect expressed heartfelt gratitude to every student who believed in the vision of his team, thanking those who supported, prayed, campaigned and voted, while describing the victory as one that belongs to the entire UNIMED community.
“I sincerely thank every student who believed in our vision, stood with us, prayed for us, campaigned tirelessly and cast their vote in support of this movement. This victory belongs to every Medite who chose hope, progress and purposeful leadership. The work begins now, and we remain committed to serving every Medite with integrity, excellence, and results,” he said.
The President-elect said the mandate given to the new administration is a call to service and assured students that the executive council would remain transparent, accountable and accessible. The administration also pledged to prioritise student welfare, strengthen collaboration with stakeholders and pursue initiatives that will improve campus life while creating more opportunities for students to excel academically and socially.
The emergence of the new leadership has been greeted with excitement by many students at UNIMED, who believe the administration will usher in a new era of purposeful leadership, unity and meaningful progress for the Students’ Union.
Many members of the university community have also commended the peaceful conduct of the election, describing it as another demonstration of the political maturity of UNIMED students and the commitment of the electoral body to delivering a free, fair and credible process.
