It is quite unfortunate that the appointment of Mr Fakeye Kayode as Special Assistant to Governor Aiyedatiwa, who is also the Member House of Representatives candidate of ACCORD Party, hoping to represent Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, has raised a lot of questions, relating to anti-party activities going on in Ondo state All Progressives Congress (APC) against the party’s interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development of concern has ignited serious political implications against the backdrop of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s stated commitment to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his position against tendencies capable of undermining the party’s interests ahead of the 2027 general elections. Is anti-party activities no longer a grave offence in APC?
The question, therefore, is not necessarily about the competence or personal character of the appointee, but about the political message conveyed by appointing an individual who is contesting for the House of Representatives position on the platform of another political party against our party, APC. Where party loyalty and the prevention of anti-party activities are subjects of public concern, such an appointment naturally invites questions about consistency and the principles guiding the administration’s appointments.
Should this be regarded as an administrative oversight or a deliberate decision by the Governor? Whatever the explanation may be, the matter deserves clarification in the interest of transparency and political accountability.
Public appointments carry responsibilities beyond the individuals appointed. The APC in Ondo State deserves clarity on the rationale behind this particular appointment, especially at a time when the party is preparing for the 2027 general elections. Anti-party is a grave offence and it should be treated as it is.
The essence is not to undermine the authority of Mr. Governor or question the legitimacy of his constitutional powers to make appointments, but to draw attention to the moral and political burden that accompanies every public decision. Leadership requires not only the power to make decisions but also the responsibility to communicate those decisions in ways that preserve confidence, consistency and trust.
At a time when the Governor has consistently emphasised party unity and opposition to anti-party tendencies, the circumstances surrounding this appointment deserve careful consideration and appropriate clarification.
