Eight aspirants who initially emerged from the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly primaries in Ondo State have lost their tickets after the party reviewed petitions arising from the exercise.
The decision followed the consideration of reports submitted by the APC Primary Election Appeal Committees, leading to fresh candidates being named for two senatorial districts and six House of Representatives constituencies.
A letter dated June 29, 2026, conveying the party’s final list of National Assembly candidates was sent to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It was signed by APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru.
According to the party, the revised list represents its final decision in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
Among the changes at the Senate level, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN) replaced Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti as the APC candidate for Ondo Central, while Senator Olajide Ipinsagba took the ticket for Ondo North ahead of Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye.
The party made no changes in Ondo South, where Hon. Isaac Kekemeke retained the senatorial ticket. Former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who was recently appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is no longer in the race.
The review also affected six House of Representatives seats. Hon. Timehin Adelegbe replaced Hon. Kayode Adejana in Owo/Ose, while Hon. Okunjimi John Odimayo emerged for Okitipupa/Irele instead of Hon. Olumuyiwa Daramola.
In Ilaje/Ese Odo, Hon. Donald Ojogo replaced Mr. Akingboye Leke. Hon. Festus Olarewaju Akingbaso also secured the party’s ticket for Idanre/Ifedore ahead of Hon. Rasaq Obe.
Dr. Michael Olajide Akintomide was named candidate for Ondo East/Ondo West, replacing Dr. Abiola Makinde, while Hon. Festus Ayodele Adefiranye got the nod for Ile Oluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo in place of Oyerinmade Matthew.
Not all candidates were affected by the review. Hon. Ifeoluwa Ehindero retained the ticket for Akoko North East/North West, while Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati remained the party’s candidate for Akoko South East/South West. Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji, the APC’s only female House of Representatives candidate, also kept her ticket alongside Prince Abiodun Adesida.
Following the review, six serving members of the House of Representatives secured return tickets, while Senators Olajide Ipinsagba and Adeniyi Adegbonmire will again fly the party’s flag in the Senate election.
