The Federal Government on Monday inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, charging members to ensure effective communication and transparent dissemination of information ahead of the party’s major gathering.

During the inauguration on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation and Co-Chairman of the committee, Mohammed Idris, described the convention as a major milestone for the ruling party.

Speaking virtually from the United Kingdom, Idris said the convention offers the party an opportunity to strengthen internal democracy and reaffirm its commitment to national development.

“As you are all aware, this convention is a significant milestone in the life of our great party as we continue to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate our vision for a united, prosperous, and progressive Nigeria,” he stated.

Idris noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is implementing reforms designed to reposition the country for sustainable growth and long-term development.

The minister added that the ruling party remains committed to supporting the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda and that the upcoming convention would further demonstrate the party’s unity and discipline.

“As a party, the APC remains committed to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, and this forthcoming convention provides another opportunity to demonstrate our unity, discipline, and shared commitment to national progress,” Idris said.

The minister emphasised the importance of the committee’s work, describing it as strategic in shaping public understanding of the convention and its outcomes.

“The responsibility entrusted to this committee is therefore both strategic and vital.

“In today’s fast-paced information environment, the success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.

He further explained that the committee’s mandate extends beyond publicity to include accurate information dissemination, transparency, media coordination and projecting the convention’s activities both locally and internationally.

“Your role goes beyond publicity; it involves ensuring accurate information dissemination, promoting transparency, coordinating media engagement, and projecting the process and outcomes of the convention to Nigerians and the international community,” he added.

Idris also highlighted the specific responsibilities assigned to the committee, which include content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other sub-committees on media-related engagements, report writing and documentation, media monitoring and evaluation, and the administration and coordination of all media activities for the convention.

Encouraging members to carry out their duties diligently, he urged them to demonstrate professionalism and creativity in executing the assignment.

“I therefore encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered, while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.

Congratulating members on their appointment, the minister expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a successful convention.

Idris then formally declared the committee inaugurated.

“It is therefore my pleasure to formally inaugurate the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of the 2026 APC National Convention,” he said.

The convention is expected to be held March 25-28, 2026.

In December 2025, APC released a comprehensive schedule of activities for its 2025/2026 nationwide ward, local government, state and zonal congresses, culminating in the party’s national convention.

According to the timetable signed by the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, the activities being conducted pursuant to the provisions of Articles 11 and 17 of the APC Constitution are aimed at electing party officials across all levels.
