Supporting Tinubu as PDP Member not Anti-Party — Fayose

Fayose

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that backing President Bola Tinubu does not amount to anti-party activity despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Fayose made the remarks while emphasizing national interest above party loyalty, noting that political differences are a normal feature of democracy.

He spoke at the PDP national convention in Abuja on Sunday.

“Nigeria is for all of us, you are first an Ekiti man before you become a political party card bearer. All the former governors are behind the current governor,” he said.

He also cited examples from international politics to support his position.

“Obama is not supporting the Democrats, the former president is not supporting Trump, have they expelled them? No, democracy will have those differences on national issues,” he stated.

Fayose further argued that support should be based on competence rather than party affiliation.

“We must not say because it’s our party member that must win when we know our party member has no capacity. Would you compare a Makinde with an Asiwaju?” He queried.
