After secondary school, Femi met Omotayo, a fellow music enthusiast, and both trained under Michael Ayan. During this period, Femi specialised in playing the Omele, a traditional Yoruba talking drum component, while Omotayo focused on the drum set.

Femi later joined the Yemiyobo Band in Okitipupa, where he played the Omele.
