A member of the House of Representatives representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, Hassan Muhammad Danjuma, is dead.

Danjuma, a first-time lawmaker elected in 2023, was said to have died in the early hours of Saturday, according to a statement issued by a media aide to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The late lawmaker, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he maintained a close political alliance with Kwankwaso.

Sources said Danjuma was in good health as recently as Tuesday, when he attended a political meeting at Kwankwaso’s residence in Abuja.

The meeting reportedly focused on preparations for the forthcoming ADC state congress, expected to produce members of the party’s state executive committee.

Danjuma was among a group of federal lawmakers from Kano who declined to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, choosing instead to remain aligned with Kwankwaso in the opposition.

His sudden death adds to a growing list of recent losses within Kano’s political circle. In December last year, the state lost two members of the House of Assembly, Aminu Sa’adu and Sarki Aliyu, who reportedly died within hours of each other.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the cause of Danjuma’s death remain unclear, while tributes have begun to pour in from political associates and constituents.
