The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles to Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The deployment, which covers the three senatorial districts and all operational areas in the state, is aimed at ensuring effective traffic management, emergency response, clearance of road obstructions and enforcement of the restriction of movement during the election.
The FRSC disclosed this in a statement signed by its Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, on Friday.
According to the Corps, the deployment comprises 2,300 personnel from the Osun Sector Command and 50 personnel each from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun sector commands.
The operational vehicles include seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, which have been positioned at strategic locations to facilitate rescue operations and emergency response.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the deployment was part of the agency’s efforts to support a peaceful, safe and credible electoral process within its statutory mandate.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mohammed said.
He added that FRSC personnel would operate with “strict professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights,” while working with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and other relevant agencies.
The Corps said it would also certify vehicles provided by fleet operators for the transportation of electoral materials to ensure that they meet prescribed safety standards and are roadworthy before deployment.
It further disclosed that a Train-the-Trainer workshop would be organised to strengthen the capacity of personnel deployed for the election, with participation from the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
On the movement restriction, the Corps said it would strictly enforce the order within designated areas during the election.
“Vehicles earmarked for enforcement of the restriction will commence deployment from 0600HRS on Saturday, 15 August 2026, with personnel positioned at strategic locations across the State,” it stated.
The FRSC advised motorists, transport operators and other road users to plan their journeys ahead of the election, comply with lawful traffic directives and avoid restricted routes during the period.
It added that its operatives would undertake traffic control, crowd management, clearance of obstructions and rescue operations before, during and after the election.
The Corps also said personnel would be deployed to designated polling locations in synergy with the police and other security agencies while remaining within their statutory responsibilities.
It directed personnel on election duty to remain alert, approachable and respectful of the dignity and rights of all citizens, irrespective of political affiliation, gender, religion or other considerations.
The FRSC further said its personnel were required to comply with the prescribed oath of neutrality in accordance with the Electoral Act.
