Aiyedatiwa Appoints Obamuyi as AAUA Vice-Chancellor

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.

According to the statement, Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the university’s Joint Council and Senate Selection Board before his recommendation by the Governing Council.

The appointment, the statement said, was made in line with the provisions of the university’s Act and other extant regulations.

Obamuyi, a professor of Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.

Before his appointment, he served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

He was also named the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa in 2015 by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius and has served on National Universities Commission accreditation teams, as well as the Review Panel of Namibia’s National Council for Higher Education.

The governor expressed confidence that Obamuyi’s experience would consolidate the gains recorded by the university and further strengthen teaching, research and community service.

Aiyedatiwa also urged the new Vice-Chancellor to uphold AAUA’s core values while promoting peace, innovation and collaboration among staff, students and stakeholders.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting AAUA in maintaining its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
