Aiyedatiwa’s devt agenda yields results as OSOPADEC unveils one-year scorecard

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission has attributed a series of infrastructure projects delivered across oil-bearing communities in the state to the development vision of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the agency marked one year under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye.

Poroye disclosed this during an inspection tour of completed and ongoing projects in the commission’s mandate areas, where he highlighted key interventions executed within the last 12 months.

According to the chairman, the board resolved immediately after its inauguration in June 2025 to complete inherited projects with tangible benefits to host communities rather than abandon them.

He said the policy had translated into the successful delivery of several projects designed to improve transportation, safety and access to basic amenities in riverine settlements.

Among the projects showcased were completed concrete walkways at Obe-Nla, Obe-Rewoye, Obe-Ogbaro, Obe-Magbe and Obe-Lomore. The facilities, he said, are awaiting commissioning and will ease movement for residents while enhancing safety in the affected communities.

Poroye explained that the commission’s long-term objective is to replace vulnerable wooden walkways with permanent concrete structures capable of withstanding the harsh environmental conditions of the riverine areas.

Speaking at Obe-Nla, he described the project as a reflection of effective governance and prudent project execution. He also disclosed that the community is being considered for a pilot land reclamation initiative aimed at expanding available land for development.

The inspection team also visited the Molutehin Mini Water Scheme, which has reached an advanced stage of completion. Poroye revealed that an additional borehole was being drilled to improve water supply capacity and ensure residents have access to clean drinking water.

He noted that the commission remains focused on addressing critical infrastructure deficits in oil-producing communities in line with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to inclusive development.

Despite challenges relating to funding and increasing demands for projects, the chairman expressed confidence that more communities would benefit from OSOPADEC interventions in the months ahead.

Poroye commended Aiyedatiwa for sustaining peace and providing the support required for developmental projects to thrive across the mandate areas. He also praised engineers, contractors and community leaders for their contributions to the successful execution of projects.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mr F.A. Omomowo, described the projects as evidence of the government’s determination to improve the living conditions of residents in oil-producing communities.

He urged beneficiaries to protect the facilities and ensure they are properly maintained so future generations can continue to enjoy their benefits.
