Bandits retreat as brave Katsina residents deny them entry

Residents of Gurbi community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have prevented an incursion into their homes by bandits.

According to a report by Daily Trust, a resident of the town said the attackers arrived earlier in the evening but were initially unable to enter the town as members of the community gathered to protect their village.

He said that as the attackers could not enter the village, they turned towards fleeing residents, whom they shot at close range, killing 10.

The report added that there were more than 10 corpses in the Nagodi area, a nearby village in front of Gurbi, and that the bodies were later transported back to Gurbi.

It also stated that residents had earlier alerted security operatives after receiving intelligence of the attack, but no response came until after the incident.

Another source close to the community leader’s palace confirmed that the attackers were unable to enter the village but succeeded in attacking fleeing residents.

Kankara has recently witnessed renewed bandit attacks, including a separate incident three days earlier in Zangon Kankara where houses were set ablaze and two people abducted.

Efforts by Daily Trust to obtain official reaction from the police and the state Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs were unsuccessful at the time of filing this news.
