Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has named Senator Aliyu Wadada, representing Nasarawa West, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Sule made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital, saying the decision followed months of consultations with stakeholders.

“After exhaustive consultations, the field was eventually narrowed to three aspirants, each of whom was considered capable of winning. Further consultations were conducted before a final decision was reached in favour of senator Wadada,” he said.

The governor explained that the choice was guided by the need to present a candidate with strong electoral prospects.

“We had to look for people who have the capacity to win this election,” he added.

Wadada, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in August 2025 after defecting from the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
