Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has relieved the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, of his appointment with immediate effect.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

According to the statement, Sagagi has been directed to hand over the affairs of the ministry to the Director of Commerce, pending further directives.

The governor expressed appreciation for the services rendered by the former commissioner during his tenure, noting his contributions to the development of the state.

“Governor Yusuf acknowledges Sagagi’s contributions, particularly in the areas of politics, religion and support for small and medium enterprises,” the statement read.

He wished the former commissioner success in his future endeavours and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to efficient service delivery and good governance.

The statement added that the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to reposition government structures for systematic growth and sustainable development in Kano State.

The development comes days after the governor relieved the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment as part of efforts to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline and improved service delivery.

Musa was subsequently directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, who is now serving in an acting capacity pending a substantive appointment.

The changes are also occurring amid ongoing political realignments in the state following Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Punch Online learnt that the shift has triggered adjustments across political and administrative structures, with several government officials and political actors repositioning in line with the new party alignment.
