Tinubu Approves Additional Two Years in Office for Surveyor-General

President Bola Tinubu has granted a two-year extension to the tenure of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the decision aims to strengthen ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s geospatial data systems and land administration framework.

The renewed tenure, which takes effect on January 5, 2026, follows the recent relocation of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation to the Presidency. With the transfer, all national surveying activities and geospatial intelligence operations will now function directly under the executive arm of government.

Under the extension, Adebomehin will remain in office until January 2028.

Onanuga noted that “The President expects Mr Adebomehin to consolidate the reforms within the next two years, focusing on national land management and administration, highways and abutting land infrastructure coordination, reclamation and erosion control programmes, and other related matters of strategic national importance.”

Adebomehin was first appointed as Surveyor-General of the Federation by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with his appointment taking effect from January 5, 2022.
