Gunmen attack NUJ Secretariat in Yobe, injure Police Officer

Unidentified gunmen stormed the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Damaturu, Yobe State, in the early hours of Friday, September 19, 2025.

The attackers shot a police officer guarding the building, injuring him in the leg.

The incident happened around 2am, leaving the officer badly wounded.

He was rushed to the Police Hospital in Damaturu, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Chairman of the NUJ Yobe Council, Rajab Ismail Mohammed, condemned the attack, calling it “unfortunate and scary.”

He said it was not only an assault on a security guard but also “an intimidation tactic against the press corps in Yobe state.”

He urged security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring the attackers to justice.
